PORTLAND, OR - The Portland Streetcar is once again bringing live music on board, offering passengers a unique and entertaining commute experience. The initiative, which aims to promote local talent and enliven the city's public transportation, will feature a diverse lineup of musicians performing on select streetcars.
Local musicians will perform live on NS Line streetcars between Portland State University and NW 23rd Avenue the afternoon of Wednesday, April 19, beginning at 4:00 p.m. The artists set to perform include Gainsayer, Anna Hoone, Jonah Sissoyev, Patrick Connell and the Portland Radio Ponies, and Keith B. (of AirShow).
Streetcars will run regularly-scheduled service as musicians perform on NS Line routes. Valid fare is required, and dancing is encouraged.
Live music on the Portland Streetcar first began in 2019 as a pilot program and quickly gained popularity among riders. The program was temporarily halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic but has now been revived, much to the delight of passengers and local artists alike.
The Portland Streetcar's initiative not only provides a platform for local musicians to showcase their talents but also encourages the use of public transportation. By creating a lively and enjoyable atmosphere, the streetcar aims to attract more riders, reduce traffic congestion, and contribute to a more sustainable urban environment.
Passengers can expect to encounter a variety of music genres, ranging from jazz and blues to folk and indie rock. Performances will take place on select streetcars and during specific timeframes, which will be announced through the Portland Streetcar's official website and social media channels.
As the city continues to recover from the pandemic, the return of live music on the Portland Streetcar symbolizes a revitalization of the local arts scene and a commitment to supporting public transportation. The initiative is expected to bring a renewed sense of excitement and energy to the Portland community.
