Northwest Parking District Advisory Committee Approves Parking Rate Hike During Event Days at Providence Park
Rates to increase to $5/hour
PORTLAND, OR - The Northwest Parking District Stakeholder Advisory Committee (NWPDSAC) has voted in favor of increasing parking rates in the area surrounding Providence Park during "Event Days," generally when the Portland Timbers or Portland Thorns soccer teams play. The proposed rate hike, which will raise parking fees to $5 per hour, is pending approval from the Portland City Council.
The decision, made during the latest NWPDSAC meeting, aims to address the increased demand for parking and alleviate congestion during these popular events. If approved by the City Council, the new rates will come into effect at the beginning of the 2024 soccer season.
The NWPDSAC, composed of local business owners, residents, and representatives from various institutions, works collaboratively to develop and implement parking management strategies in the Northwest Parking District. The committee's goal is to ensure that parking resources are efficiently managed and support a vibrant, livable, and sustainable neighborhood.
The rate increase is expected to encourage more visitors to opt for public transportation, ride-sharing services, or cycling to the games, reducing traffic and parking issues in the area. Additionally, the revenue generated from the higher parking fees will be reinvested into improving the overall transportation infrastructure in the district, benefiting both residents and visitors alike.
